The broad discipline of engineering encompasses a range of more specialized sub-disciplines, each with a more specific emphasis on certain fields of application and particular areas of technology. Engineering expertise and technology are major contributors to mining, construction, transportation and infrastructure. Use of current technologies & creation of new technologies are at the heart of the engineering profession. Engineering education must have an eye on the fruits of the profession’s labour. Designing our educational program towards these ends will have a tremendous impact on the viability of the profession in practice.
