Mechanical Engineering

Message from HoD

Mechanical Engineering has been the heart of the industry and hence it plays a vital role in society as it also offers employment opportunities for fresh engineering graduates as well as for Mechanical Engineers with varied domain expertise and experience. Mechanical Engineering deals with machines and their working; maintenance of these machines; design and maintenance of component parts required for these machines so as to keep the manufacturing and allied industries moving efficiently, effectively and productively. Also coming within the folds of Mechanical Engineering is the safety of mechanical systems and the people working on the systems. Mechanical Engineers are groomed in such a way that they can take up various roles in various sectors on industry at various levels in various domains. This makes them flexible, versatile and preferred professionals for employment in various sectors of industry. We must be proud to be Mechanical Engineers.

VISION

To be the most sought after academic, research and practice based department of Mechanical Engineering that others would wish to emulate.

MISSION

Creating exuberant Mechanical Engineering Professionals.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Mission Elements

M1: To impart quality education to the students by implementing Outcome Based Education (OBE) model

M2: To develop analytical mind as well as nurture academic and research culture.

M3: To serve society by providing solutions to the challenges in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

M4: To prepare and encourage students for higher studies, entrepreneurship and employment.

M5: To create an ecosystem for professional competition and lifelong learning

Programme Outcomes

1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the conceptualization of engineering models.
2. Identify, formulate, research literature and solve complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics and engineering sciences.
3. Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations
6. Demonstrate understanding of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to engineering practice.
7. Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a societal context and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
8. Understand and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
9. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
10. Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
11. Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of management and business practices, such as risk and change management, and understand their limitations.
12. Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in independent and life-long learning
